Fraser Institute top think tank in Canada and now among top 20 worldwide: annual global survey

The Fraser Institute is once again the top think tank in Canada and this year was ranked among the top 20 think tanks worldwide, according to the 2014 Global Go To Think Tanks Report published by the University of Pennsylvania and released today at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, D.C.

The annual index ranks the Fraser Institute first among nearly 100 think tanks in Canada for the seventh consecutive year and 19th out of 6,618 think tanks from 182 countries worldwide.

“Being recognized as one of the top 20 think tanks in the world and the only Canadian think tank in the global top 40 speaks volumes about the quality of research and programs produced by our diverse staff and senior fellows across Canada and the United States,” said Niels Veldhuis, Fraser Institute president.

“The University of Pennsylvania ranking is validation that the Fraser Institute continues to successfully study, measure and broadly communicate the effects of government policies and entrepreneurship on the well-being of Canadians.”

In addition to its overall ranking, the Fraser Institute ranks:

  • 4th in the world for Social Policy research
  • 5th in the world for Health Policy research
  • 14th in the world for Most Innovative Policy Ideas
  • 18th in the world for International Economic Policy research

Founded in 1974, the Fraser Institute is one of Canada's oldest independent and non-partisan economic and public policy research organizations, with offices in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and Montreal.

The Fraser Institute also leads a global network of independent think tanks in 87 countries through its Economic Freedom Network. Fourteen other members of that network ranked in the top 150 think tanks in the world in this year’s Global Go To Think Tanks Report, including:

  • Cato Institute (United States), 16th out of 6,618 think tanks worldwide
  • Timbro (Sweden), 88th worldwide
  • Center for Free Enterprise (Republic of Korea), 103rd worldwide
  • Free Market Foundation (South Africa), 119th worldwide
  • Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (Germany), 143rd worldwide
