Salmon farming, or aquaculture, has become a regular news feature in British Columbia. Headlines such as Fish farming threatens wild salmon...(Hume,2004) and ...disease and parasites will devastate wild stocks... (Cox,2004) portray an environmentally destructive industry. But is this really the case? What concrete scientific evidence do we have for such claims? As we dig deeper, it appears that scientific research does not back up the supposed threat of escaped farmed salmon.
